§ 6-83. Running at large prohibited.

  • It is unlawful for any dog to run at large within the limits of the village. If a dog does so run at large within the limits of the village, any person who owns or keeps such dog shall be in violation of this article and shall be subject to a fine as provided in section 6-1 and any and all associated pound fees. All dogs shall be properly licensed and vaccinated and leashed in such a manner as to prevent said dog from biting any person or from running at large generally. All persons handling the leash must be of sufficient age and size to maintain control of the dog under all circumstances. It shall be the duty of the owner or keeper of any dog which escapes from the owner's premises or control to immediately notify the police department. Dogs located on the owner's premises or within the owner's control shall be secured in such a manner that they cannot attack or intimidate pedestrians lawfully using the village's public rights-of-way or prevent lawful access to the front door of a home.
